Return of the Mach
Well it's been nearly 8 years since we've seen the name Schumacher on a Formula 1 grid after Michael retired for the second time at the end of 2012. Now though we're going to get our third Schumacher lining up for a race start after Michael and Ralf in Michael's son Mick.
Mick Schumacher is a Ferarri Academy driver currently leading the Formula 2 championship with 1 event remaining and it's fair to say he's been fairly impressive so far. A result of all of his hard work is that the Haas F1 team have now signed him for a drive in 2021.
Can he follow in his fathers footsteps and continue his fathers legacy? That's an awful lot to ask from such a young man but given what he's been able to do in the lower Formulas I think it's a pretty good shout that he'll be able to deliver some strong results for the Haas team assuming they are able to give him some competitive machinery.
I'll be honest I was never a fan of his father Michael. I was very much a Damon Hill fan growing up. Michael was always the evil ruthless enemy in my eyes. It was only in later years I gained an appreciation for just how good he was and what he achieved. Mick has displayed some of that same raw talent in the Junior Formulas so I truly hope he can live up to the name as with a name like Schumacher there are going to be some serious expectation of him........
